Three Months!

I can not BELIEVE how quickly these past three months have gone! (I know, I know... everyone warns you how fast time goes with a baby, but still...) While it seems like these months have flown by, it's also hard to imagine life without our little guy.

A few things Isaac's doing these days:
  • He laughed for the first time yesterday! SO adorable!
  • He's starting to put everything in his mouth. Especially soft things, like blankets & burp cloths.
  • He's on his stomach, all the time. He'll roll over immediately when we put him on his back. Yesterday he rolled the other way - from his stomach to his back - but apparently isn't really ready to show off that skill because he did when I wasn't looking!
  • He loves to smile. Although for his pictures today, he decided to just be serious.
  • He still loves to be held, especially up high on your shoulder.
  • He's really starting to take in things around him. We're not sure how far he can see, but we've definitely watched him track us from a good distance away.
Can't wait to see what all this next month brings!

Sleeping like a baby

As any new mom (and some not-so-new moms) will attest to, how your baby sleeps can be a pretty big deal. And, just when we start to figure something sleep-related out with Isaac, he's ready for the next thing!

Lately, though, our little monkey got tired of just sleeping on his back. Our first indication of this was in Charleston, when he rolled from his back to his front while swaddled one nap. Thankfully, we saw when this happened, and we started using rolled up towels to keep him from rolling over.

However, when we returned to Virginia, rolling wasn't enough for Isaac. He decided he'd scoot all over the crib, and maybe roll some in the bargain. We'd start out by putting him on his back in a sleep positioner like this...

And just a few minutes later we'd find him like this...

After a week of watching him fall asleep so we could keep putting him on his back, we realized it was a lost cause. Our boy just wants to sleep on his stomach. So, as of this past Sunday (August 5th), Isaac is swaddle-free and sleeping on his stomach. We had a couple rough days while he got used to not having his swaddle, but now he's sleeping like a champ, on his stomach every time! (We actually still put him down on his back... but it only takes him about 2 seconds to flip over!)

Tour-de-South-Carolina: Charleston

Our second stop was Charleston to spend time with Javier's parents. Even after living in South Carolina for 25 years, I had somehow forgotten how HOT it gets in July. We were reminded of the heat, especially in Charleston, so we spent lots of time inside trying to stay cool!

Smiles for Opa!

Isaac got lots of loving from Oma.

Gracie's becoming very attached to Isaac, we think. :)

We enjoyed eating outside in the evening, after it had cooled down some.

Isaac was getting really good at wriggling out of his swaddle.
This picture shows how he'd work his hand up to the top of the swaddle
(this would soon be followed by his whole arm). Isaac also rolled over (back-to-front) for the first
time in Charleston - more on this later!

All of us down by the marsh. Gracie hasn't learned how to face the camera.

And a close up!

Tour-de-South-Carolina: Chapin

So, I just can't quite catch up on posts. This is a rewind to July, when we spent two weeks traveling around South Carolina - Columbia, Charleston, and Greenville. We had such a great time with family and friends, and Isaac got to meet a lot of them for the first time. When we finally got home, I realized how much Isaac had changed over those two weeks, and Javier reminded me that I shouldn't have been surprised - that trip covered one-fifth of his entire life!

So, without further ado... pictures!

A rare picture of everyone! LG's serious face here cracks me up.

Isaac meeting his great-grandma!

Aunt Myrtle rode down with Grandma.

PopPop's littlest fishing buddy.

Wade's super into baseball - it's really cute.

I caught LG playing in the flour. I think this is the night we made
pizzas on the grill.
Uncle Mark is a baby whisperer!

Aunt Kay & Uncle Talley and Uncle Mike came to visit.
We got to celebrate Aunt Kay's birthday!
Isaac loves kisses from his Aunt Kay. :)

LG wanted me to read the comics to her. I just loved cuddling with her!

Isaac getting lots of loving from Auntie Em.

I love my sisters!!

And, we got a second whole-family picture the last day we were all there.

He's not even three months old...

...yet he's still growing up way too fast!

Proud daddy's barely holding his little guy up.
I love his face here.
And, I love his face here. Actually, I just love his face. And him. A lot.
Gracie kisses her little brother!

Two Month Checkup

Isaac had his two-month checkup today. We were out of town right when he turned two months old, so really he's two and a half months. He had his first big round of shots which wasn't much fun for any of us, but Isaac's a trooper and is hanging in there!

Two month stats:
14 lbs., 4 oz. (75th percentile)
25.5 inches long (or tall, if you're Javier) (98th percentile)
17 inch head circumference (98th percentile)

The doctor also told us he has something called torticollis, which basically means a muscle on one side of his neck is tight and causes him to always have his head turned that way. We had noticed that he favored one side, but hadn't realized it was a real problem. The doctor told us it's minor and showed us some ways to help him stretch that muscle. Hopefully the stretches alone will help correct this. Other than that, we have a very healthy baby boy and we're so thankful for that!

similar

While in Chapin, my mom pulled out a picture of me at 8 weeks. Isaac was right at 9 weeks. My uncle saw the picture and said "Why is Isaac wearing a dress." What do you think?
